Holism: Alternative Therapies
and Healing Arts
This holism is a slightly obscure word; however, holism covers the subject in this blog rather well. I would guess that like most people my first experience of holism would be with home remedies parents and grandparents gave to their children and grandchildren for various ailments. By holism I mean this to cover the full spectrum of holistic remedies, treatments and therapies.
It was not until I was in my late twenties that I properly experienced holism. I was living in New Zealand at the time and attending martial arts club. Our instructor applied a holistic healing therapy from China to anyone, who may have been ill or accidentally injured during training. My next holism experience was when my wife’s cousin gave me a holistic massage learned from her Tai Chi teacher a bit painful but a very affective form of complimentary therapy.
Since those early days my wife and I have entered the holism world properly. My wife is a holistic massage therapist and Reiki master and I am a Reiki Master Teacher and have also studied other healing arts. For example we have used herbs and home remedies for over thirtynine years we have looked at and experienced other forms of alternative therapies, my wife and I both do Indian Head Massage, and I did a preliminary course in Shiatsu. When I have more time I would like to complete my shiatsu course, and just carry on learning new things.
But of all the alternative therapies that fall under the umbrella of holism as far as I can tell from my experience and practice, the effects of Reiki healing have always been beneficial, while sometimes bringing quite remarkable results. As a holistic therapy Reiki healing must be one of the safest least intrusive, amazingly gentle, and effective
.
Reiki healing was founded in recent times by Dr Usui a Japanese Tendai Buddhist.
From what we can gather Reiki healing was discovered by Dr Usui as a direct result of Buddhist spiritual practices and was a by product of those practices rather than the main aim. Because of the effectiveness of Reiki healing Dr Usui decided he could give the ability to perform Reiki healing to others who did not necessarily follow these practices.
Eventually Reiki healing was brought to the west by a lady called Mrs Takata who first introduced students to Reiki healing in Hawai, as a result of her actions Reiki healing is now practiced all over the world. Anyone can become a Reiki healer one only has to be attuned, in the form practiced by myself there are three levels to be attuned too. One can practice Reiki healing professionally at level two, the idea is similar to what you would find in martial arts and in fact Dr Usui was also an exponent of martial arts. In theory you could be attuned to all levels at once, however one of the possible side effects of being attuned to the Reiki healing art is the development of some psychic ability, so getting it all at once could be a little counter productive.
As a result of my interest in holism I have been able to learn quite a lot about what affects the general health of human beings. Diet and life style being major factors in good or bad health. I am fortunate to be very healthy I am a vegan and I watch carefully what I eat.
I have found that I am allergic to various soap powders this made me check into the ingredients of these commonly used products. For example many soaps shampoos and toothpastes contain some form of aqua sodium laurel sulphate, which if you check this out I suspect you will find can not be very beneficial to ones health. There are many other things too numerous to mention. I now have a source of supply for these products with a company that does not use harmful substances in there manufacture. Those interested, wishing to buy or sell these products for themselves will be able to do so through the link which will be provided soon. These products are sold through multilevel marketing, The product line is large and includes aroma therapy oils vitamin drinks etc.
I have also found a company that produces magnetic jewelery which is said to produce a beneficial magnetic field for energy and health. A kind of none intrusive magnetic therapy but very fashionable too. Also sold through multilevel marketing links to be provided soon
. Holism really took off in the 1960’s and 70’s and especially Reiki healing. Some people in the medical profession consider holism as a threat to their livelihood and even to their patients. Of course the recipients will make up there own minds.
I would like to say that holism, Reiki healing, alternative therapies and practices should not be considered a threat to the medical profession, but complementary and a valuable addition to the healing arts.
